Celebrating a year of innovation and connection – December Newsletter

Kia ora,

As 2025 draws to a close, it’s the perfect moment to reflect on an incredible year of innovation, collaboration, and progress across the New Zealand EdTech community. Together, we’ve continued to shape the future of learning in Aotearoa and beyond…strengthening connections, celebrating new ventures, and championing digital inclusion for learners of all ages and stages.

This final newsletter of the year features our member spotlight on Saasyan, perspectives from Susana Tomaz on AI’s role in education, and Dr Nuddy Pillay on educator-led EdTech design, plus opportunities with AUT engineering students. Whether you’re busy planning the year ahead, wrapping up projects, or just wrapping up gifts(!), we hope these updates spark ideas and connections to carry you forward.

From all of us at EdTechNZ, thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to making education more connected, accessible, and impactful. Wishing you a restful holiday season and a bright, innovative and tech-powered start to the new year!

Partner with AUT Engineering Students

EdTechNZ members can partner with final-year engineering students at AUT for their capstone projects (March-November or July-June). These partnerships provide 300+ hours of dedicated student work on your technical challenges—whether that’s IoT sensor systems for learning spaces, embedded systems for interactive displays, or software solutions for educational platforms. It’s an ideal way to test innovative ideas you lack capacity for internally, with fresh perspectives from electrical, mechanical, mechatronics and software engineering students eager to tackle real-world problems. Plus, you’re building connections with future talent who gain hands-on experience solving real industry challenges. Learn more.
