CRISPR in the classroom: Global life science and clinical diagnostics leader Bio-RadTM Laboratories partners with Dunedin-based ADInstruments to bring cutting-edge technology into the hands of students.
Dunedin, Otago, 2 May 2022 A new teaching technology partnership gets students hands-on
with advanced molecular biology techniques like CRISPR gene editing, PCR, SDS-PAGE, and
ELISA. High-quality hands-on teaching kits from Bio-Rad Laboratories, a California-based
developer and manufacturer of high-performance technological products for the life science
research and clinical diagnostics markets, are paired with Lt, a software platform from Dunedin
company ADInstruments. Lt is a cloud-based, active-learning platform that delivers
professionally-created biology course content. The partnership provides everything a biology
educator needs to give their students hands-on experience with concepts and techniques that
would be too difficult or expensive to provide otherwise.
“Partnering with Bio-Rad strengthens Lt’s value as an “all-in-one” lab solution. We are excited to
bring Bio-Rad’s highly respected and engaging kits to more educators, and to create a
comprehensive biology curriculum online,” says Amy Bucher, Head of Education at
ADInstruments. “We know how hard it is for educators when they need to pick and choose from
different providers to build their curriculums. By integrating Lt with Bio-Rad’s kits, we ensure that
students can engage with rigorous content, interact with authentic data, and learn important
molecular biology techniques, all in one platform.”
Bio-Rad is similarly enthusiastic about the partnership. “Together with ADInstruments, we are
bringing greater flexibility and accessibility for students to engage with cutting-edge topics in life
science,” says Bryony Ruegg, Director of the Bio-Rad Explorer education program at Bio-Rad
Laboratories. “The Lt platform provides the high standard of quality we promise to our
customers, and it amplifies the student engagement and learning educators rely on from
Bio-Rad’s hands-on labs.”
The comprehensive Lt Biology Collection includes 34 labs for undergraduate biology education,
addressing a variety of concepts fundamental to biology and biochemistry, including enzyme
action, spectrophotometry, microscopy, photosynthesis, DNA replication, pH, CRISPR, and
PCR. ADInstruments has also partnered with leading educational technology company Vernier
Software & Technology (Oregon, US) to integrate their USB Go Direct® Sensors, which enable
students to record authentic data into Lt in real-time.
Lt’s cloud-based, flexible labs save educators time by centralizing content, grading, analytics,
and course management. Learn how Lt can streamline your biology course by previewing the
Collection or signing up for a free 90-day trial.
